Methacrylated sodium alginate (AlgMA) is created by introducing methacrylate groups into the sodium alginate molecular chain, thereby conferring photopolymerization capability. Compared to traditional divalent ion (such as calcium ion) crosslinking, photopolymerization crosslinking is more portable and provides good uniformity within the gel. Materials based on AlgMA have been widely applied in many biomedical research fields.Including: tumor model construction, cell loading, wound dressings, controlled drug release, dental impressions, and more. In addition, the -OH and -COOH groups in the structural units of sodium alginate can serve as chemical active sites. Through chemical modification, more active groups can be introduced, providing a three-dimensional (3D) structure suitable for cell growth and differentiation, thereby granting it new properties (such as cell adhesion and active drug loading) and expanding its applications in tissue engineering.
