Properties of β molecular sieve

Beta molecular sieve is a product developed by Mobile in the 1960s. It has three intersecting 12-membered ring channels. Beta zeolite is a zeolite with three-dimensional 12-membered ring channels.

Physical and chemical properties

β molecular sieve has high silicon-to-aluminum ratio, large pore size, and relatively high thermal stability. β molecular sieve has only pores and no cage, so β molecular sieve can exchange all cations. The adsorption capacity of β zeolite for cyclohexane is relatively large, above 14%, while the adsorption capacity for n-hexane and water is basically equal. This is a special property of β molecular sieve (β zeolite).

Catalysis

1. For the disproportionation reaction and transalkylation reaction of toluene, mesitylene and C9, β zeolite has stability and high selectivity.

2. In the process of petroleum cracking, it can improve the octane number of gasoline, and reduce the pour point of middle-distilled oil (diesel).
3. The acidity and proper pore volume of β zeolite can produce isomerization, and promote carbocation C-C chain transfer to produce branching or ring formation, which can greatly increase the octane number.

4. Beta zeolite has a three-dimensional twelve-membered ring pore structure, the pore system is connected, the silica and aluminum are relatively large, and the acidity is moderate. It is better than USY for the cracking of short chain alkanes and the formation of naphthenes that can enter the pores.

5. The combined use of β-zeolite and USY can increase the octane number of gasoline.
6. In terms of fine chemicals, β zeolite has good activity and selectivity in dehydration and deamination.
7. It is unique in the para-position selection and activity of phenol alkylation.
8. Zeolite is very beneficial to petroleum hydrodewaxing and pour point reduction.
